We are Lake Park High School Choir.

There are five curricular choirs in the LPHS Choral program – each has its own unique characteristics.

THE LPHS CHORAL EXPERIENCE

Grade 11-12, no audition or experience required

West Mixed Choir


West Mixed Choir is a choir for junior and senior students at Lake Park High School. This ensemble is open to all students interested in learning to develop their confidence and skills in vocal production, musicianship, and performance. Tone production of the maturing voice and choral musicianship is focused on in this class. The curriculum includes an emphasis on musicianship skills such as sight-reading, solfeggio, ear training, and vocal independence. West Mixed Choir performs in school and in the community frequently during the year. Students enrolled in this course have the opportunity to audition for the Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Students are encouraged to audition for the ILMEA Illinois All-State Chorus in the fall to enhance their musical development. ALL concerts and dress rehearsals are mandatory.

Vocal Jazz Ensemble


Vocal Jazz Ensemble is the top-level mixed chorus musical offering at LPHS. An audition determines participation in the choir. VJE is made up of 16-20 singers from grades 11 and 12. The repertoire performed is strictly in the vocal jazz realm. In addition to the literature being prepared for performance, there will be extensive work in further developing each student’s singing, sight‐reading, solfeggio, and tonal memory skills. This ensemble will frequently perform in the school and the community during the year. Students must concurrently enroll in the Advanced Treble Choir or West Mixed Choir. Students are encouraged to audition for the ILMEA Illinois All-State Chorus and Vocal Jazz Ensemble in the fall to enhance their musical development. ALL concerts and dress rehearsals are mandatory.

11-12 student, Audition and instructor approval

Advanced Treble


The Advanced Treble Choir is open to junior and senior singers. Students in this class study and perform (mostly) advanced treble-voiced literature of a variety of styles and historical periods. Tone production of the maturing voice and choral musicianship is focused on in this class. The curriculum includes an emphasis on musicianship skills such as sight-reading, solfeggio, ear training, and vocal independence. Advanced Treble Choir performs in school and in the community frequently during the year. Students enrolled in this course have the opportunity to audition for the Jazz/Chamber Choir. Students are encouraged to audition for the ILMEA Illinois All-State Chorus in the fall to enhance their musical development. ALL concerts and dress rehearsals are mandatory.

All sophomore singers, No audition or experience required

Sophomore Mixed


Sophomore Mixed Choir is for all Sophomore singers. This ensemble is open to all singers interested in learning to develop their confidence and skills in singing, musicianship, and performance regardless of previous choral experience. Sophomore Mixed Choir performs an eclectic variety of music that is appropriate for the continued development of the young voice. Members of this choir will be required to perform at all Lake Park High School choral concerts and dress rehearsals throughout the school year. Sophomore Mixed Choir will regularly perform alone and with the Freshman Mixed Choir to form a larger vocal ensemble.

All freshman singers, No experience required

Freshman Mixed


Freshman Mixed Choir is for all freshman singers. This ensemble is open to all singers interested in learning to develop their confidence and skills in singing, musicianship, and performance. Freshman Mixed Choir performs an eclectic variety of music that is appropriate for developing the young voice. Members of this choir will be required to perform at all Lake Park High School choral concerts and dress rehearsals throughout the school year. Freshman Mixed Choir will regularly perform alone and with the Sophomore Mixed Choir to form a larger vocal ensemble.
