LPHS Choral Experience

Meet the Choirs

Lake Park offers five curricular choirs, open to students in every grade level. Each ensemble is designed to help singers grow in musicianship, confidence, and performance.

Freshman Mixed Choir

9th Grade | No Audition

Freshman Mixed Choir is open to all incoming freshmen, no prior experience required. Students learn the foundations of healthy singing, musicianship, and performance. The choir performs a variety of repertoire suitable for developing voices and regularly joins with the Sophomore Mixed Choir for combined concerts. Attendance at concerts and rehearsals is expected.

Sophomore Mixed Choir

10th Grade | No Audition

Sophomore Mixed Choir continues the growth begun in freshman year, with a focus on building tone quality, sight-reading, and vocal independence. Students perform a wide range of repertoire and frequently combine with Freshman Mixed Choir to create a larger ensemble sound. All performances and rehearsals are required.

West Mixed Choir

Grades 11 - 12 | No Audition

West Mixed Choir is open to juniors and seniors who wish to continue developing their voices. This ensemble emphasizes vocal production, solfege, ear training, and musicianship. West Mixed Choir performs frequently at school concerts and community events. Students in this choir are encouraged to audition for the ILMEA District and All-State Festivals and may also participate in the Vocal Jazz Ensembles.

Advanced Treble Choir

Grades 11 - 12 | Audition or Director Approval

The Advanced Treble Choir is an auditioned ensemble for upperclassmen treble voices. Students study advanced choral literature from a variety of styles and eras, focusing on tone, independence, and expressive performance. This ensemble performs frequently at school and in the community. Members are encouraged to audition for ILMEA and may also participate in the Vocal Jazz Ensembles.

Vocal Jazz Ensembles

Grades 11 - 12 | Audition or Director Approval

The Vocal Jazz Ensembles (VJ) is Lake Park’s premier auditioned choir, limited to 16–20 students. Members explore the vocal jazz repertoire and refine advanced skills in sight-reading, solfege, and tonal memory. Singers must also be enrolled in West Mixed or Advanced Treble Choir. VJ performs regularly both at Lake Park and in the community, and members are strongly encouraged to audition for ILMEA’s District and All-State festivals.
